How to wire a ceiling fan(black, white,blue) to plug into a wall socket?
Hi,
How would I wire a used/old ceiling fan(with black, white, blue wires) to a power cord(with two copper wires) that I cut-off from an old lamp. And then be able to plug the cord into a wall socket. and yes the cord does reach.
1. Which of the two wires from the ceiling fan(black, white,blue) do I connect to the two copper wires from the power cord?
2. And would it matter which ceiling fan wire connects to which copper wire of the power cord?

Contrary to popular belief, this can be done. Just not SAFELY with the materials that you mentioned. As it is a motor, it "shall" be grounded. Meaning that it needs to be grounded to be safely operated. So, you need a 3 conductor cord instead of just 2. As far as wiring it, the black and blue will tie together with the black out of the cord. White goes to white, while the green, or bare will tie together which grounds the motor. Remember, all your joints (splices) "shall" be in an approved electrical junction box.
